Not to take … Not to take anything away this post or Peggy Lee’s fine artistry. Take a look at
“Golden Earrings Marlene Dietrich 1947 originl Zoltan Gypsy camp scene” here on You Tube. For both a laugh and to appreciate Murvyn Vye’s work.
AFAIC between Peegy and Murvyn there are no better versions of this song.
Sexy, smoky, … Sexy, smoky, sensuous…sensational!
Peggy Lee at her best! Great photos!
Thank you for uploading this haunting
classic song and to PaulO for sharing!
vidiegoquam-I don’t … vidiegoquam-I don’t get her(Dietrich) singing it on you tube. Just a gypsy man singing it,or a poster etc. in another film clip. Willie Nelson did a very country kind of golden earrings that is quite good musically. No Lily Marlene though.
I’m curious to know … I’m curious to know if you have heard Marlene Dietrich sing this song, as she did in the film? Another unique voice… her interpretation is less “sweet” than Ms. Lee’s, but equally compelling, I think.
Lovely version of … Lovely version of this old standard melody.
I have my own interpretation of this tune.
This title means much to me.
If you like you can see my clip in youtube under “lovejazz2″
jim30bell-Thank you … jim30bell-Thank you for sharing this with me. Have you heard the Willie Nelson recording of this gem? He does it straight from the heart, and as good as I’ve ever heard. Only rival ever to the awesome Peggy Lee.
The movie and song … The movie and song “Golden Earrings” came out in 1947. Dinah Shore had a recording of it…but it wasn’t as popular as the one by Peggy Lee, which was #2 on the Hit Parade.
dzheger-My mother … dzheger-My mother used to do her housework while singing this awesome song. In those long ago days,I don’t know of any other popular version of this song.Willie Nelson made a wonderful version much later on,and this is available on You Tube. Best wishes.
Thia is a great … Thia is a great version of this song…
I remember as a 13year old boy seeing Marlena Deitrich in the film – and I was mesmerised by her.
