How much are wedding and engagement rings suppose to cost?
I remember hearing some where that you’re suppose to spend at least 3 months of rent on and engagement ring, i think. Does anyone know how much you are suppose to spend on it?
that’s a ploy from retail stores to get you to spend more money!
There is no golden rule on how much you need to spend. It should be whatever you are comfortable with IN CASH…not credit cards or by taking out a loan. You don’t want to go into debt for a ring!!
I think the middle ground is around $1000, some people only spend a couple hundred, some spend 2k or more.
The thing to remember quality is better than quantity in the long run. You don’t want your diamond to lose value down the line.
The folks at the diamond industry want you to spend two months salary on an engagement ring.
That’s a marketing ploy they’ve been working for years, but it’s just that – a way to make more money.
A person should spend whatever they are comfortable spending to buy the rings they like.

There isn’t a set amount (DUH) you spend as much as you feel needs to be spent. Mine was $1,400 but if I could do it all over again I would have gotten one thats about $250

Don’t worry about how much you’re supposed to spend!
It’s more about the thought you can get a good quality solitaire dimond round cut for upwards of £1,200 (approx $1781)
The band will be much cheaper(and simpler) they can be bought for around £500.

Does the money really matter. As long as there is love. I have heard that it should be 2x what you make. Someone could pay 250.00 for a engagement ring while someone could pay 2500.00 for one. So it really matters how much you love someone. When I got married my ring’s cost $50.00 and they were about 75 years old at that time.

Go in and look at rings… You will find out that you can get a simple one or something different from everyone elses. And when you want different, you pay MORE!!! Find what you like, and buy it!

Do not fall for the marketing ploy of "three months salary" on an engagement ring. If my fiance followed that rule he would have been "obligated" to spend over $15,000. My engagement ring cost around $8,000 for a one-carat diamond with a white gold band with pave set diamonds. That’s more than enough diamonds for me!
I’m looking at a matching wedding band that will probably run around $1,000.
A good site to design your own engagement ring and see how different factors affect the cost (color, cut, clarity, carat) is the Build Your Own Ring on http://www.bluenile.com

There isn’t any certain amount they’re supposed to cost. It should be whatever you can spend on them, but I think it’s kind of ridiculous to spend $2000 on an engagement ring and then another $700 or so on a wedding band. But I guess if you have the money and don’t need it for anything else then it’s fine. I just would have a hard time spending that much money on a couple of bands of metal!

wow 3 months ha ha we are in a recession. if your only worried about the cost of the ring you probably shouldn’t be getting married. have him go out and buy what he would like to after all he is asking you right. when you are ready to go and buy your wedding rings go together. see what you like and feel comfortable wearing for the rest of your life, don’t go by price.

I had a gold band with a pearl for my engagement ring and I loved it. and it totally didn’t cost 3 months rent.
I think it depends on the couple. Not everyone has the same taste and I told my fiance that I did not want him to spend a lot on my ring. We have to live afterward.
Rings could be around $400-8,000, maybe more and that includes the band. My ring did not cost as much as this amount I said.

There is no set cost on rings. It is a matter of preference. My whole set was $1500 my Husband wanted bigger but that is all he could afford. I would have been happy with a simple gold band. My Husband had the option of diamonds in his band but he wanted simple. I bought his band for $150. Everyone’s style is different. The love behind that ring means the most.

correction, it’s not 3 months rent but 3 months salary however, no one really follows this. you spend what you can afford there is no set rule to how much your wedding and engagement rings should cost. some people spend only a couple hundred on both and some people will spend thousands. you spend what fits in your budget and what you like.

worked in a jewelry store for 7 years.
you should spend 2 month salary. rule of thumb.
i spent 40k on my fiance’s ring and anohter 11k on the wedding band.
my wedding band was 16k

That 3 month figure is a diamond industry guideline.
In today’s sucky economy, it’s best to get what you can afford.
BUT show that you put some thought into it. For example, you can get a very inexpensive Palladium band and have a very short message engraved inside the ring.
It’s the memory that counts.
If you can afford a diamond, try internet diamond sellers like

It is customary that your spouse will spend 2 times his monthly pay checks but he should spend as much as he feel comfortable with. If you buy online you can probably save 30% and get better quality.
Try one of the reputable online jewelers like http://www.jamesallen.com/ or http://www.bluenile.com. They both have very good quality rings and diamonds, very low prices with a 30 day return policy. On James Allen you can also see actual photos of the diamonds before you make your purchase.
good luck!
