Why are engagement rings more expensive than wedding rings?

Also, how does the binding of the rings work? Before or after the wedding ceremony?

Just wondering. Looking at the wedding rings and engagement rings strikes my curiosity.

Engagement rings usually cost more due to the fact that there is a large stone of some kind (either a gem like an emerald or sapphire or traditional like a diamond) which takes up a chunk of the cost. Wedding rings are usually cheaper due to smaller diamonds or just pure white/yellow gold.

I’d recommend getting the rings bound together after the ceremony, just in case both the rings won’t fit on your finger together, or so that your groom doesn’t have to force them on. That’s just my opinion, different people do things a different ways.

more people get engaged and end up not getting married cause they realize marriage is worse than prison. they bind the rings in the fires of mount doom in the land of mordor. its a crazy thing to watch them do.

Because engagement rings typically feature a focal stone which would be larger than any stone on a wedding band. Wedding bands either are made up of smaller stones, which are comparably cheap, or a plain band, and metal, except for platinum, is much cheaper than, say, diamonds.

    Hi there,

In Western culture, the engagement ring is typically purchased first and used to purpose a marriage. At this point the couple is considered, "engaged." Once a wedding date is set couples will proceed to purchase the wedding band second and exchange them at the wedding ceremony. There are also people who like to get simple bands for the ceremony and then get the more expensive ones later.

The engagement ring is usually more expensive because it has one larger main stone whereas the wedding bands have several smaller diamonds. So to put this in perspective for you; a one carat diamond will always be more expensive then two half carat diamonds (all other variables being equal).

Engagement rings usually have a center stone with a diamond or a precious gem. That is why engagement rings are more expensive. Wedding bands are generally what you purchase before the wedding. When you exchange wedding vows you also exchange wedding bands. When you propose, you give your gal an engagement ring.

    Good Luck!
